Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v Teddington Town on Sat 10 Jun 2006 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won 4 wickets

Match report Saturday 10th June saw 90% of the players wanting to bat first just to be able to watch the football along with the rest of the nation! The weary travellers Teddington managed to win the toss and pull up seats in front of the TV hoping that their openers would do all the work for them! Unfortunately they could not have made a worse start with A. Patel being bowled first ball of the second over by Jamie Bishop. E. Whatchorn then decided that he would score as many as possible as quickly as he could and clattered 48 from 57 balls including six 4’s and two 6’s before being removed by the honoured appearance of Nick Bishop. After some reasonable batting from the away side they had a platform of 110 for 3 from 30 overs, but for the second week running a tight spell of 15 overs form Tim Mahoney, Nick Bishop and Perry Moore the visitors found themselves in much trouble at 137 for 6 with just a maximum of 7 overs remaining. That sparked the interest of number 9 batsman W. May who seemed to have no trouble in scoring 43 from just 25 balls to leave the visitors on a respectable score of 195 for 8 from 52 overs.

A slightly dejected Thatcham Town took stock after conceding many runs in the last few overs and missing the football but were consoled by a superb tea. It was so good that Iain Cottingham found himself coming back for seconds after being caught behind for just 1 run. Dan Stone then took the game into his own hands and added a valuable 60 from 63 balls to help the total onto 102 for 3 from 24 overs. For the visitors the star performance was C. Hico bowling 7 overs 2 wickets for just 21 runs, but with little reward for the other Teddington bowlers Thatcham managed to reach the total of 195 for 6 wickets with 8 overs to spare after Malcolm Bloor scored a solid 34 and Robb Fraser added a crowd entertaining 38 from 40 deliveries including two consecutive sixes.

The two main surprises of the day were that England won the football and Nick Bishop worked out he was the 5th oldest player in the Thatcham 2 XI?!
