Hillingdon Manor v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday on Sat 17 Jun 2006 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost 3 wickets

Match report Saturday the 17th June saw 4th place Thatcham travel to 2nd place Hillingdon Manor with just 2 points between them. Both teams had so far always bowled first and so when the home side won the toss they predictably elected to field first even though the pitch looked full of runs, before play commenced there was a Red arrows fly-by for the Thatcham Openers, the second in as many weeks!

Thatcham got off to a slow but steady start with an opening partnership of 102 from 27 overs seeing Fred Bloor depart the very next ball after reaching 50. Dan Stone then tried to raise the run rate and did so to good effect scoring 39 at a run a ball before being run out by a very tired looking Iain Cottingham who also departed soon after for 75 off 122 balls. This then put Nick Shea at the crease who scored a firework display of runs reaching 51 from 44 balls including four 6’s. Thatcham then decided that at 255 for 4 from 51 overs they would declare and have tea. K. Araoke was the pick of the bowlers keeping the total down by bowling 9 overs for just 23 runs.

Thatcham started with the old ball and should have had an early breakthrough but the chance was put down. This seemed to set the tone for the second innings and fortune favoured the brave with the home side playing shots at everything picking up runs fast and furiously, chances never quite going to hand and many swings that just failed to find an edge. Even after the new ball was taken and the welcome return of Jamie Fisher to the Thatcham attack the visitors couldn’t seem to make anything happen. At 115 for 1 off 27 overs the home side looked to be cruising. Thatcham managed to then pick up a couple of vital top order wickets Z. Akram scoring 51 and A. Akram scoring 85 and the run chase began. Any real hope Thatcham had of holding the home side to a draw was put to one side as S. Limbachia scored an agricultural but effective 41 from 27 balls after being dropped on 9. Thatcham tried desperately to start a revival but the damage had been done and the home side reached 259 with 7 balls to spare although losing 7 wickets so the visitors didn’t leave empty handed. Skipper Perry Moore the pick of the bowlers ending with figures 12 overs 3 wickets for 51 including the last over going for 16 runs.

Hillingdon Manor go top through their win and Thatcham play the previous leaders Maidenhead and Bray next week.
