Match report Thatcham travelled to struggling Marlow on Saturday. Home captain Fisher won the toss and elected to bat on what appeared to be a typical flat Marlow track. Thatcham’s pace duo Paul Jenkins and Jamie Bishop made early inroads to leave Marlow 63-4 after 18 overs. Evergreen Tim Mahoney replaced Jenkins and immediately frustrated the Marlow batters. However a lack lustre Moore, who replaced Bishop at the other end, allowed Marlow to take the score to 162-5 after 42 overs. The reintroduction of Jenkins and introduction of fine death bowler Nathan Redmond did well to contain Marlow’s lower order batters, Marlow ending on 232-8 from their 52 overs. Jenkins was the pick of the bowlers ending with 4-37.

Bill Beaumont and Iain Cottingham opened Thatcham’s innings. Cottingham’s preseason training clearly paying off as he fluently moved in to the forties. However a snorter from Aslam found Cottingham’s edge and he departed for 47 in the 32nd over. All the while Beaumont was picking off the Marlow attack moving quickly toward a deserved century. However Marlow’s leg spinner, Lines, produced an over Shane Warne would have been proud of and bowled Beaumont with a wrong ‘un for 99. A disappointed Beaumont was replaced at the wicket by Jenkins where he and fellow all rounder Dan Stone comfortably knocked off the remaining runs with 4 overs to spare. Stone finished up 46 not out and Jenkins 33 not out.

Thatcham are now only 4 points behind league leaders Hillingdon Manor and look forward to visiting Wokingham 2nds this coming Saturday.
