Match report Thatcham Town 4th XI proved to be far too strong for a young Kidmore End 4th XI on Saturday recording their third successive 25pt victory in the TVL Div 7A.

Winning the toss and electing to bat Thatcham openers Mick Stone and 16 year-old Kieran Lynch yet again set the foundation with an excellent opening partnership of 114. The young Kidmore End attack of N Jones and J Brown found it hard going in the hot conditions but stuck to their task well never letting the run rate get out of hand. Kieran Lynch was the first to be dismissed for 45, again just missing out on what would have been a well deserved 50. Micky Stone was finally bowled by N Griffiths for a fine 81.

Thatcham also took the opportunity to give some of the many promising youngsters at the club experience of senior cricket and 14 year-old Jamie Young batting at number three showed maturity beyond his years with a chanceless 50 not out. He was supported by Simon Heaver (19), Kelvin Aubrey (17) and another 14 year-old, Tom Mahoney, who scored 10 not out, enabling the declaration to come at 249 for 4.

The Thatcham opening attack of Simon Chapple and Ben Cruise bowled well without luck at the start of the Kidmore End innings and had to wait until the 8th over for the initial breakthrough to be made. Once made however wickets fell steadily and all six bowlers used took wickets. Ben Cruise was the pick of the bowlers, taking the last two wickets with consecutive balls to finish with 4 for 23, ably supported by Simon Chapple who took 2 for 7 from his 7 over spell. Jamie Young again excelled in the field – although a wicket keeper for the Under 15’s he showed he is also a fine outfielder by taking two sharp catches at cover.

C Selman was the only batsman to take the attack to the Thatcham bowlers, and to reach double figures with a hard hitting 44 as Kidmore End slumped to a disappointing 78 all out.
