Match report Thatcham Town 4th XI were unable extend their recent wining run, being held to a draw by Fleet 3rd XI on Saturday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat Thatcham openers Andy Stephenson and Jamie Young put on 31 for the 1st wicket before Young who was going well fell to a sharp catch behind for 20. Bill Fry then joined Stephenson and rode his luck early on as the Fleet fielders failed to back up their bowlers, but was soon in his stride as this pair put on 143 for the second wicket. Stephenson moved on to 90 before being bowled by Mourden, and Fry was dismissed for 72. Andy Bayliss (19) and Ben Cruise (24 no) continued the attack allowing the declaration to come at 250 for 4 from 50 overs.

Youngster Mourden was the pick of the Fleet bowlers finishing with 2 for 43 from his 10 overs, with G Guerney also bowling well for without any luck whatsoever to finish with figures or 1 for 52 from 13 overs.

With the Thatcham opening bowlers Ben Cruise and Simon Chapple each picking up a wicket early on to reduce Fleet to 18 for 2, things looked promising for Thatcham. However, M Petto (41) and R Bywaters (40) batted well to get Fleet back in the game and frustrate the bowlers. Two quick wickets from colt Daniel Stephenson raised hopes of a victory but it was not to be as Fleet successfully batted out the remaining overs to finish on 177 for 6.

Cruise and Chapple again bowled well to finish with 2-28 and 1-38 respectively and with D Stephenson 2-5 and Tom Mahoney 1-7 were the only wicket takers from the nine Thatcham bowlers used.

However with other results going their way the 13 points from this draw match leaves Thatcham 4’s joint top of the TVL Div 7A
