Windsor IV v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 4XI- Saturday on Sat 15 Jul 2006 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost 3 wickets

Match report Thatcham Towns 4th XI trip to joint second place Windsor ended in a narrow defeat, but they still came away with 13 valuable points.

After loosing the toss and being put into bat on a wicket with uneven bounce, Thatcham batted with much more resolve than during the previous weeks defeat at Wokingham. Openers Mick Stone (28) and Kieran Lynch again put together a solid opening partnership against some tight Windsor bowling – with Martin in particular bowling extremely accurately in an opening spell of 12 overs, 1 for 6.

However, both openers fell with the score on 48 and it was left to youngsters Tom Donnelly and Jamie Young to rebuild the innings, which they did, working hard to put together a partnership of 58 for the third wicket. Donnelly in particular looked in good form, keeping the scoreboard ticking over in an innings of 42 ably supported by another colt Joe Cummuskey who made an assured 21. Despite contributions from all the middle order Thatcham were still not certain of maximum batting points at 163 for 7, but a restrained 22 not out from Dave Wells and an entertaining 29 not out from Simon Chapple saw Thatcham to 226 for 8 after the allotted 52 overs.

After Martin’s initial miserly spell, the damage was done by Charters who took 5 for 49 from his 14 overs, and although Martin’s figures were spoilt by the hard-hitting Chapple, he still finished with a respectable 2 for 55 from 19 overs.

Still on a high from his exploits with the bat Chapple quickly had Windsor in trouble with two wickets in his second over to reduce the home side to 10 for 2. However, Charters followed up his good form with the ball to pull the innings round and take Windsor to within sight of victory with a superb 115. Ably supported by Bhuller (36) and Holmes (29) he was very severe on any loose deliveries and took the score to 215 before being bowled by Tom Donnelley. Indeed having made the breakthrough the Thatcham spinners then gave Windsor an almighty fright as 3 wickets fell in quick succession, before an edge through the slips brought the winning runs with 6 overs to spare. Tom Donnelly with 2 for 25 and Dave Wells with 2 for 31 led the spin attack, backed up by Nick Monger, 0 for18 and Piers Bragg, 1 for 38.
