Match report Despite a top order collapse Thatcham ran out comfortable winners away at Reading Sports on Sunday.

The home side batted first and made a steady start, adding 27 before Nathan Redmond picked up the first of three quick wickets, all bowled with inswingers. Ravi Mirchandani was soon introduced into the attack and he removed the dangerous looking Balaji in his first over, well caught by John Williams at mid off. Mirchandani proceeded to chip away at the middle order as only Nalin showed much resistance before he was bowled for 33.

Mirchandani picked up a well deserved fifth wicket with his final delivery and ended with 5-29. A late flourish from Mahesh and Jay took Reading up to 144 before Redmond (4-15) returned with his fourth wicket to wrap up the innings. Gavin Ansell took the other wicket to fall.

With a relatively small total to chase Thatcham just needed to bat sensibly and Martin Keep took an instant liking to the bowling before he fell in typical style, bowled for 9. 10-1 soon became 13-4 and then 29-5 as the top order fell to some pretty poor strokes. The experienced pairing of Robb Fraser and Matthew Denness set about repairing the damage with Denness playing the dominant role and looking in fine form.

They had added 55 when Fraser went to a rather soft dismissal for 25 but the remaining sixty one runs were knocked off in just ten overs as Denness took the game away from the home side with good support from Ravi Mirchandani, who capped a fine all round performance with 15 not out. Denness finished on 74 not out, an innings containing twelve fours. Vasu was the pick of the bowlers with 3-31 from 8.4 overs.
