Match report After last weeks impressive win, Saturday’s performance simply should’ve been better from the young Thatcham side.

After winning the toss, inserting the opposition & bowling them out for 166 Thatcham would appear to be the happier side at the tea break.

However, the earlier good work with the ball by Scott Gibson (5-38) and Duncan Johnson (4-28) was not backed up in the field by the home side, with fielding mistakes & dropped catches meaning an additional 30-40 runs onto the opposition’s total, which in the end would prove vital in the unsuccessful run chase.

With a 167 run target set (which would appear more than attainable for the Thatcham batting line up) some tight bowling & poor shot selection meant Thatcham stumbled to 163-9 in there allotted over’s with contributions from Dan Stone (35) & Duncan Johnson (28). Chris Bird (17) & Nick Monger (30 no) did provide hope for the home side in the final few over’s with Yateley’s seemingly average score proving to be just out of reach with 4 runs required from the final delivery.

A frustrating day for Thatcham in truth, epitomised by an extremely tidy display behind the stumps by Jack Young, only for the youngster to break his hand in a display of annoyance at the fall of his wicket.

However, in recent years this may well have been a game Thatcham lost, so positives must be taken from this and we move onto next week’s eagerly anticipated derby with Newbury without defeat and week of hard work on the training ground ahead.
