Match report Oh hello again inconsistent performances, we’ve missed you. Well not really but given an eight wicket rout at the hands of Chesham there isn’t really too much else you can say.

The warning signs were there early on as a SatNav malfunction saw us have just three players present half an hour before the start; not ideal preparation but occasionally these things do happen. Not an excuse, just merely stating fact people. Anyway, part of the days plan came to fruition at least as we won the toss and elected to bat on a standard Chesham wicket. I say that, I’ve never been there before in my life – and I don’t think we had a good enough view of it Saturday to make an informed decision…Well who wouldn’t choose to bat; a slowing track, the sun was shining and Arsenal were playing next door. What more would you encouragement do you need to spend time in the middle?

Evidently not those things as the first over was safely negotiated…by Chesham, as we were two down for just a single and even then I’m not convinced the running merited being awarded that run. Not for the first time this season our decision making was called in to question and again, not for the first time this season, we failed miserably. Aside from Jonno (28) and Boner (24) no one else took responsibility for their innings and in doing so left the pitch with any shred of dignity to their name. Two weeks ago we were riding the highs of rocking Yateley out for 40; fast forward 14 days and we were head butting the changing room door having been shot out for 68. Sadly that probably wasn’t going to be enough, just odd the 100 runs short I reckon.

Joking aside it was all too easy for Chesham and a team this good don’t exactly need help to win matches; effectively we gifted them all ten wickets. Bit academic now but Chesham’s three bowlers played fair and shared the wickets between them; Matt Rance again tormenting Thatcham claiming 4-30 from another 17 overs (one day his shoulder will give up…), with Turner (3-23) and Jonathan Burden (2-11) providing the customary seam support.

The best we could hope for was either Chesham hitting self destruct in a much more spectacular fashion than us; or, more likely, a torrential downpour that would last for about three and a half hours. Yeah ok, so our rain dancing skills are poor. And our ability to convince ten batsmen to give up their wickets is not too much better either; although we did manage to persuade two. Aftab Habib (20) and Andy Goddard (22) thankfully felt some sympathy towards us to allow us a solitary and possibly, for the bowling effort only, deserved point. Gibbo (1-32) and Webbs (1-9) exerted some pressure to at least make Chesham work for the runs but it was sadly inevitable that they were going to get home in relative comfort.

It was left to Atkins and Brother Rance to complete the unenviable task of bagging a not out each, finishing with a pair of 14’s to see Chesham to victory inside 21 overs and with eight wickets in hand. With Chesham facing fierce competition from Boyne Hill for the Division 2B title they will start to need results in their favour; just a shame we play Boyne Hill in four weeks time really. However, next week sees Bagshot visit Brownsfield and having been bowled out themselves for 67 at the hands of Boyne Hill both teams will be desperate for a major confidence boost as we enter the room stretch of the 2012 season.
