Theale & Tilehurst 2 v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday on Sat 28 Jul 2012 at 1:00pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 7 Wickets

Match report Thatcham 2nd XI completed the double over Theale & Tilehurst 2nds on Saturday with a 7 wicket win.

Thatcham won the toss and inserted the home side on a slightly worn track that combined with the cloud cover was felt to provide assistance to Thatcham’s opening attack. Theale & Tilehurst took a very positive approach to batting early on with both openers Mead and Codd attacking anything wide. This approach work well with the score soon on 35 and only 5 overs bowled.

Thatcham however, realizing that chances were aplenty, held their nerve and were rewarded with the wicket of Mead as he struck one too many aerial shots and was caught in the covers by young. Things could have got worst for the home side as Winfield hit form, producing some unplayable deliveries that had the slip cordon retreating another 5 yards. Cooper (23) edged Winfield to first slip early on in his innings where Watts failed to take the regulation catch, allowing the home side to push the score on to 93 by the 22nd over.

Skipper Bird felt a change was needed and threw the ball to Perry Moore who immediately impacted on the course of the match as he removed Codd (47) with his second delivery beginning a period that would see wickets fall at a rate more akin to Thatcham previous league games.

Taylor (1-17) and Moore (2-23) struck again in consecutive overs reducing Theale & Tilehurst to 98 for 4 bringing Bond to the wicket who decided to put pay to Thatchams change of fortune by attacking Moore with strokes that would have not been out of place during a Thursday night 20-20 game. Fortunately for Thatcham Bonds aggressive innings was short lived as, Jack Andrews while fielding at mid-wicket, noted Bonds absence from the crease at the non-strikers took aim and struck the wicket as Bond tried and failed to make his ground.

Winfield (3-39) was reintroduced once his forced fast bowler directive absence was over and didn’t fail to deliver as he removed Ali and Bhatt in the same over. Backed up by the other Thatcham bowlers Theale & Tilehurst were eventually dismissed for 151 as Johnson (1-19) concluded the home sides innings, delivering a full toss on leg stump that was gratefully smashed through square leg by Sankaran only to be nonchalantly snapped up by Moore.

Thatchams response took the now familiar approach. Matt Watts (69) and Gravey (36) scored runs (108 run second wicket partnership), Mahoney (11 not out) and Young (20 not out) completed the task (after Watts & Garvey lost their wickets in quick succession). Job done 152-3 and 20 points.
