Match report Thatcham Town 1st XI travelled to newly promoted Aldershot on Saturday.
Aldershot won the toss and surprisingly opted to bat on a wicket that looked like it would help the bowlers.
Thatcham’s opening bowlers Scott Gibson (1-27) and Callum Johnson (3-37) once again did a good job of restricting the opposition’s batsmen and reduced them to 33 for 2 after 14 overs. Josh O Flynn (2-21) entered the attack and continued the good work with Aldershot reduced to 45 for 5.
K Naqvi (41) and D Anslow (19) halted the fall of wickets, but with Chris Bird (3-35) finding his line the wickets began to fall again with Aldershot dismissed for 129 in 45.3 overs.
After tea Andy Rishton and Matt Denness started positively, until RIshton ran past a delivery to be stumped for 10.
Felix Hartley Russell joined Denness and the score raced to 58 before Denness missed a straight break for 20.
Duncan Johnson (21no) produced a controlled innings in support of Hartley Russell who brought up his second half century of the season before falling for 55.
His wicket brought Champagne Wright to the wicket and he finished the game off in some style and remained unbeaten on 21 in the 34th over as the innings closed on 133 for 3.
This win lifts Thatcham Town to 3rd in the league, with bottom of the table Reading visiting Brownsfield this weekend.
