Match report Thatcham Town CC Ist XI’s unbeaten run came to an abrupt end on Saturday as they went down by seven wickets against fellow title chasers Burnham.
Batting first Thatcham collapsed in dramatic fashion to 17 for 7 after a positive opening stand of 6 between Gibbo and Den. The collapse was stared by a Yousaf hat-rick for the home side. Flynnie showed good determination and a bit of luck as he battled to 28 not out and a with a counter attack from Johnny Grubs 59 which saw Thatcham make three figures, after he had seen Waqar out of the attack. Willow then ridiculously holed out on the longest boundary at long on trying and failing to clear Waqar on the boundary, after a partnership of 87. The following Thatcham batsmen’s Doomer and CJ both fell for 0 joining Cat, Dunc, Wrighty and jnr jnr Young in the duck club as the innings closed on 107 in 30 overs.
K Yousaf claimed 4 for 29 and W Ahmed 3-43 for Burnham.
Unfortunately, Wrighty’s new reason for not coming to the pub was too late to see him bat.
After tucking in to a tea of stale dairy lea sandwiches, pastry rolls, a mouldy jam tart and a cup of tea so weak it couldn’t get out of the pot, Thatcham needed quick wickets and broke through in the first over with CJ (2-24) trapping the Burnham opener LBW. However, Doomer dropped a clanger (hold on he is trying to blame The Cat) and the Burnham batsmen very quickly took the game away from Thatcham as they throw caution to the wind and attacked every delivery. It wasn’t pretty but it was effective. Thatcham did manage to pick up a further two wickets but Burnham cruised home in 18 overs.
Thatcham Town remain in second place with league leaders Kidmore End travelling to Brownsfield next weekend.
