Match report Thatcham Town 1st XI travelled to Yateley Cricket Club on Saturday and were rewarded by a return to winning ways.

Yateley won the toss and elected to bat first, and raced away with Halson being particularly aggressive. The introduction of John Williams and with Scott Gibson 0-34 finding his line they put the brakes on the Yateley onslaught which brought the demise of Halson 37 as he looked to relieve the frustration and ran down the wicket to be stumped by Jamie Young.

Chris Bird came on to bowl as he was costing to much in the field, replacing Gibson and bowled tightly and the pressure produced further wickets as Yateley were reduced to 115 for 5. A late rally from Bone 60 and Wildey 40 not out, accelerated Yateley to a final total of 232 for 7 from 52 overs with 83 runs coming from the last eight overs. Williams claimed 3-91 from 22 overs and Bird 3-79 from 16 overs.

Taking the old ball Yateley removed Ross Schreiber for 5, but Thatcham put the pressure on the home side through Simon Lewis and Josh o Flynn. Lewis fell for a well constructed 51 and O Flynn for 34 leaving Thatcham on 111 for 3 from 25 overs.

Duncan Johnson held the innings together, and with aggressive innings by the supporting batsmen of Wright 19, Young 17 and Williams 19.

With the fall of Williams, Callum Johnson joined his Dad to see Thatcham home in the final over, Johnson Snr hit two towering 6’s on his way to 48 not out and Johnson Jnr 14 not out hit the winning boundary to secure the three wicket victory.
