Thatcham 3rd xi continued to prosper on their travels with an emphatic 6 wicket win at Fleet on Saturday.

Asking the home side to bat first after winning the toss for the first time this season on a dry pitch Thatcham’s attack well led by Ben Denton-Powell (2-42) were faced with Payne (64) in attacking mood. The introduction of Michael Hobbs (2-26) soon put the home side on the back foot though as the runs dried up. Hobbs influence was sadly short lived as he dislocated a shoulder as he was about to release the ball and was taken to Frimley Park Hospital. Skipper Elston joined Pamment (44) in a 6th wicket stand of 85 despite Tommy Mather’s (1-37) good control. Following Pamment’s departure Elston then opened up as he took the home onto 227-7 from 51 overs finishing unbeaten on 52. Paul Holland (1-68) bowled without due reward.

Thatcham response started sedately, and although Dave Taylor reached (20) the run rate required soon reached 7 an over. Steve Bartholomew then joined Eddie Wylie in what was to be a match winning partnership. The left handers, with clean striking and good running quickly reduced the run rate as they put on 149 for the 3rd wicket before Wylie needlessly run himself out for fine 81. Bartholomew went onto make a supreme unbeaten 92 as Thatcham romped by 6 wickets with 4 overs to spare.
