Match report Thatcham travelled to Bagshot for the first league game of the season and were grateful to the weather for a lucky escape and a shared 7 points each. Bagshot skipper Matt Pettet won the toss and had no hesitation in inserting the visitors on a damp track. Both openers were back in the hutch inside 7 overs with just 6 on the board and it was left to Felix Hartley Russell and Duncan Johnson to repair the damage. Hartley Russell looked in fine fettle as he made his way to 25 before Sutherland nipped one back through the gate to bowl the former Eton schoolboy. Chris Wright followed shortly after and when Johnson fell to the spin of Berridge for 22, things were looking bleak. Berridge then bowled Jack Young and had Josh Winfield lbw and at 68-7 through 33 overs Thatcham were staring down the barrel. Callum Johnson and Scott Gibson had other ideas though and took the score to 95 before a stoppage for rain. By the time the rain stopped the innings was reduced, leaving the visitors 5 balls to finish their innings. Johnson smashed another couple of fours to finish unbeaten on 26 with Gibson offering valuable support with his 8 not out. Thatcham finished on 105-7 from their 43 overs, leaving Bagshot 37 overs to reach their target. Mike and Andy Davis came out all guns blazing and raced to 51 without loss from just 10.3 overs before the rain came again to save the visitors from certain defeat and escape with 7 points.
Hayes are the visitors to Brownsfield on Saturday and a much improved performance will be needed in all areas of the game.
