Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday v Hayes on Sat 17 May 2014 at 1.00
Match was Drawn

Match report Newly promoted Hayes were the first TVL visitors to Brownsfield this season and left with a draw thanks to their skipper Singh, who produced an outstanding, chanceless, knock of 116 not out, which saw his side leave with 11 points from the afternoon proceedings. Singh had earlier won the toss and elected to bat, although at 48-5 through 20 overs, it was a decision he must have been regretting as Callum Johnson 1-29, Josh Winfield 0-20, Scott Gibson 1-32 and Chris Bird 3-41 ran amok. Singh found good support in the Hayes no.7 Momi though who decided attack was the best form of defence and proceeded to smash a quick half century with five 4's and two 6's, putting on 113 with his skipper before he was run out. Singh took control in the last 10 overs and made it very difficult to set a field, as he swept and reverse swept the Thatcham spinners to great effect. He finished unbeaten on 116, Hayes posting 218-9 from their 52 overs.
Thatcham's reply started badly as Simon Lewis had his stumps rearranged by Simon for 0. Felix Hartley Russell joined Simon Rider and they posted a 66 run partnership with Hartley Russell looking in fine fettle before one shot too many saw him bowled for 42. Another good partnership of 86 between Rider and skipper Duncan Johnson then put the home side in the box seat before Johnson perished for 29, holing out on the deep square boundary off spinner Momi. With 65 runs required from the last 10 overs and 7 wickets left, it should have been a comfortable chase but Rider, who had played beautifully for his 71, was stumped off Momi and then Chris Wright (18) was bowled soon after. Josh O'Flynn ran past one to give Momi his 4th wicket and skipper Singh took off his wicket keeping pads/gloves to dismiss the dangerous Josh Winfield and effectively make sure his side wouldn't lose the game. Callum Johnson and John Williams were left with the task of getting 22 from the last 2 overs and although they gave it their best shot, Singh and Momi were too clever and Thatcham finished 10 runs short of, what should of been a routine, victory. A disappointing 9 points were claimed by the home side and games are going to need to be won if any promotion desires are to be realised.
Runaway leaders Stoke Green, 50 points from the first two games, are the next test for Thatcham and will provide very stiff opposition in what promises to be a cracking game at Brownsfield next weekend.
