Match report Thatcham sank deeper into the relegation mire as a lacklustre display saw them comfortably beaten at home to Burnham.
Having lost the toss, the home side were inserted on an uncharacteristically damp Brownsfield track and despite the tricky conditions both openers looked relatively comfortable until Aslam got the better of Scott Gibson with the score on 17. The arrival of Felix Hartley Russell upped the tempo and the momentum looked to be shifting in Thatcham's direction until a bizarre mid-pitch collision with batting partner Simon Lewis (22) saw the latter forced off to nurse a bloody nose.
The timing couldn't have been worse for Thatcham as 49 for 1 swiftly became 77 for 6 with the talismanic Waqar Ahmed - wicketless until that point - ripping through the middle order.
Chris Wright (29) and John Williams set about repairing the damage with a quick fire 40 run partnership but when Williams holed out for 30, the end swiftly came as Thatcham finished on an under par 148.
Quick wickets were vital if Thatcham were to have any chance of victory and they got off to an ideal start with a Jamie Young run out adding to Scott Gibson's early strike. At 21 for 2, Thatcham were very much in the game but they failed to press home their advantage as Nawaz and Shabir settled in to what would prove a match winning partnership.
Whilst Thatcham had little go their way, the attack generally failed to threaten and Burnham eased their way to victory with minimal resistance from the home side. The defeat leaves Thatcham just 3 games to avoid relegation and a much improved performance is needed for next weeks trip to Chiswick.
