Thatcham continued with their winnings ways as they recorded a 6 wicket away win against league leaders North Maidenhead on Saturday.

Having won the toss skipper Stephen Bird decided to take first go on a greenish wicket as he asked North Maidenhead to bat and his instincts were to proven correct as Lachlan McKenzie removed opener Butt with his third ball. Support at the other end was provided by 15 year old Ben Denton-Powell who delivered 6 overs of exceptionally accurate seam, returning figures of 1 for 10, leaving McKenzie to power through the North Maidenhead’s top 5 with a combination of pace and accuracy.

Last week’s bowling hero Simon Lewis joined McKenzie to keep North Maidenhead under pressure as they stuttered to 38 for 8 before Q Rasool, joined by number 10 A Ashraq attempted to restore some pride in the North Maidenhead batting line up.

Rasool and Ashraq took the home sides score beyond the 100 mark, helped by a couple of dropped catches from the fielding side, as McKenzie finally ran out of steam after 13 fantastic overs claiming his first Thatcham 5 for, on his way to match figures of 6 for 30 from 13 overs.

Simon Lewis eventually broke the home side’s resistance as Rasool tried one too many big hits and was bowled just short of his half century for 48. Lewis then wrapped up the innings removing Choudary with the score on 115, leaving Ashraq at the other end for a well-made 36.

Thatcham were then asked to bat a potentially tricky 10 overs before tea could be taken. Andy Harland again started lively looking sublime as his elegantly stroke play took him to 20 in the first 5 overs before he miss timed a cover drive straight to cover. Cottingham and Lewis were soon to follow Harland back to the dressing room as Ashraq continued where he left of with the bat, single handily reducing Thatcham to 36 for 3 before tea was taken.

An excellent tea seemed to settle Thatcham’s nerves as Gale and Jamie Young took the score to 64 before Gale fell to Butt, LBW for 9. The away side then settled into a composed, textbook runs chase as Young (47 not out) and in form Howell (24 not out) knocked off the final 50 runs without any further incident over the next 10 overs.
