Match report Thatcham continued their good start to the season with a second win……..

It was an important toss to win on a damp pitch and fortunately they did and inserted Chesham. Turnbull and Modi made a positive start but debutant Ali Naqvi and Andy Harland soon found their line to put the Chesham openers under pressure. Modi was bolwed by Harland for 23 and Turnbull soon followed LBW to Naqvi. Rob Maier came to the crease and took some time to get off the mark due to tight bowling from both ends. Naqvi (20-9-45-3) continued to apply the pressure moving the ball both ways, bowling both Ownes and Clifford reducing Chesham to 69-4. Harland (17-5-50-1) made way for Bird who took a superb caught and bowled in his first over. There was not let up with only Maier offering any resistance, Bird and Johnson (6-0-17-0) both bowling very tightly and Bird taking wickets a regular intervals to return excellent figures of 9-1-33-4.

In reply Thatcham made an excellent start with Steve Wyatt dispatching the second ball for six. However it was short lived as he unfortunately fell LBW to Nomi. Rakesh Patel came to the crease and played some fine shots but was beaten by a ball that kept low for 19. Leaving Thatcham 40-2. James Ettridge struggled on the slow pitch but stuck with it until he was caught in the 20th over. Ali Naqvi looked the part the bat and played a patient innings for his 57 with support from Duncan Johnson (13), however Thatcham made hard work of getting to the target losing three quick wickets, however Matt Denness (13*) and Robb Fraser (1*) finished the job, giving another deserved victory.
