Match report Thatcham 1st XI continued their excellent start to the season, with the third victory on the bounce……

Thatcham played host to NPL Teddington, with both teams coming into the game undefeated so far this season. NPL won the toss and elected to bat. They made a positive start with Churchman and Royce playing fluid shots, however it wasn’t long before Royce succumbed to Naqvi for just eight. Harland and Naqvi bowled great tight spells exerting good pressure on the NPL batsmen. The pressure was all too much for the NPL batsmen Harland ripped through the top order taking wickets in quick succession, leaving NPL 28-4. It was only Rae-Palmer playing sensibly to hold the innings together (finishing with 33*). Harland continued to make in roads, taking three further wickets leaving NPL 40-7, returning figures of 12-6-13-6. Duncan Johnson and Chris Bird were introduced to the attack and again they bowled well in tandem with Bird taking the wickets of May and Thomlinson, leaving NPL 63-9. However the tail certainly wagged as Rutt set about the spinners playing some great shots and mustering 28 with good support from Rae-Palmer, however old campaigner Nick Bishop was introduced and Rutt quickly holed-out, Johnson taking a fine catch in the deep to leave NPL 102 all out.

Thatcham made a steady start in response, with usual pairing of Steve Wyatt and James Ettridge making good starts. However Ettridge was first to go bowled by Thomlinson for just 10. Rakesh Patel joined Wyatt, but unfortunately his innings was short-lived departing to Thomlinson for just 1. Thatcham pro Ali Naqvi joined Wyatt and the pair both played some excellent strokes and restored stability to the innings. The pair quickly set about reducing the pressure increasing the run rate with relative ease. Naqvi was particularly destructive punishing anything full. Naqvi finished 41* and the main stay of the innings Steve Wyatt 44* with Thatcham reaching the target in just 23 overs.
