Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday v CHESHAM on Sat 21 Jul 2007 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report Thatcham Town achieved another emphatic victory this weekend, hammering Chesham by 9 wickets.

The ground-staff made an excellent just to get a game on after the extreme weather of Friday. The outfield was somewhat damp, but you wouldn’t have believed how much rain we had on Friday by looking at the track.

Chesham won the toss and elected to bat. Maier and Goodard made a promising start against the tight bowling of Wood and Harland. It wasn’t long before Thatcham made the breakthrough Harland having Goodard caught at extra cover by Bird. Confused followed when Maier was dropped but quick thinking saw the promising Asuaf run out for 11. The introduction of Bird and Naqvi increased the pressure on Chesham, bowling ten overs and conceding just fifteen runs between them. The pressure brought the wicket of Maier for 46 and Brown quickly followed both to Naqvi. With the introduction of Nick Bishop, Chesham were left feeling the heat at 92-4 in the 35th over. Bishop and Naqvi continued the tight lines with Naqvi picking up the wicket of Clifford. Chesham then accelerated with Rance and Khunara hitting the ball cleanly to give a useful fifty partnership, before Naqvi struck again removing Khunara for 34. Unfortunately for Thatcham some chances were not taken late in the innings and Chesham finished up with 188-7. However the outlook was bleak with the weather coming in and the covers going on during tea.

It was the renewed partnership of Wood and Wyatt to take up the challenge of reaching the Chesham target! However lightening looked to slow the challenge, with the score on 27 from 4 overs Thatcham could not have asked for a better start. Play was stalled for some 30 minutes before Wood and Wyatt resumed in blistering style. Both innings wire simply stunning, Chesham had no answer to the power of Wood and Wyatt……..both made their dislike of running obvious smashing the ball to all parts of the ground. Wood reaching a sparkling three figures in just 82 balls, before the partnership was boken on 178, with Wyatt falling for 59 from 63 balls. Duncan Johnson came to join Wood to see Thatcham home to an awesome nine wicket win.

Again a great display from the boys with possibly our strongest side of the season so far. Not our greatest fielding performance, but the bowling was tight and the batting sublime. With no other games completing in the league, Thatcham extend their lead at the top of the table to 33 points. The boys simply just have to keep up the pressure, as there are just seven points between second and sixth place in the table.
