NPL TEDDINGTON v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday on Sat 28 Jul 2007 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 69 runs
Match report
Thatcham Town had to work hard for a victory over bottom of the table NPL Teddington.
Thatcham Town lost the toss and were inserted. Wood and Wyatt set about the task in their usual attacking style, Wood hitting three boundaries in the first over. However the tables were soon turned with Wood dismissed (12) in the third over. Johnson followed in the same over (0). Thatcham’s troubles continued when Wyatt (10) and Naqvi (0) fell in quick succession leaving Thatcham 23-4. Denness and Stone entered in an attempt to steady the ship. They made progress working the ball to pick up the ones and twos. Denness (10) just started to get going when he fell LBW to May. Robb Fraser rode his luck in helping the Thatcham revival but similar to Denness had just started to get going when he was bowled by May. Leaving the innings in tatters at 67-6. Stone and Harland combined to stem the flow of wickets, Stone playing some fine shots, punishing anything loose. It was a useful partnership to see Thatcham past the hundred mark before Stone (34) was removed LBW by May. Harland and Rider came together to form what proved to be a vital partnership. Rider working the ball and working exceptionally hard to put pressure on the field. Harland playing sensible cricket to build the recovery in a chanceless innings. It was the return of Darby that removed Harland (56). Rider and Keep continued in the same vain to bring Thatcham up to 179 when Keep (13) was stumped. Thatcham failed to add to that with Bird falling first ball, leaving Thatcham 179 all out.
NPL Teddington went at the low score from the off, with Laghari cutting loose early on. However he didn’t appear to be able to combine attack with defence and Wood removed him for just 18. Harland and Wood combined to reduce the run rate making it difficult for Wooster and Churchman to score. Naqvi was introduced in place of Wood, he was tight as usual and accounted for Churchman in his first over with a ball that nipped back sharply. He followed this up bowling Thomas for just 2. Suddenly the game turned with NPL 47-3. Harland then got in on the act removing Wooster, quickly followed by N Churchman. The captain Garvie and Darby combined well to steady the innings. Harland was replaced by Wood, who accounted for Darby with a surprise bouncer. Bird replaced Wood, bowling a great spell tempting Garvie to go aerial. With the field back the captain continued with this strategy and was soon caught at long off by Harland. Naqvi was replaced by Harland and his luck continued removing Bunting thanks to a great catch from Wood at gully, Thomlinson was removed the following ball LBW, leaving NPL Teddington 110 all out.
The skipper says.....
A fantastic team effort, we weren’t in the best position and it was great to see the lads dig in. Stone, Fraser, Harland, Rider and Keep all deserve praise for giving us a score to defend. The fielding performance that followed was awesome, we dropped a few catches last week which could have been costly, but there was a definite energy in the performance and great determination to put matters right this week. Wood, Harland, Naqvi and Bird all bowled well to restrict and build pressure and in the end it was just too much for NPL Teddington. Naqvi deserving more wickets bowling 16 overs for just 21 runs, taking 3 valuable wickets.
