Match report Thatcham II and Odiham & Greywell played out an entertaining draw with all four results possible as the last ball was bowled.

The home side were inserted and three of the top four made good contributions without going on to play a big innings. Gavin McDonald (39), Chris Wright (31) and Stuart Newman (39) making his debut all threatened but got out when well set.

It was left to Jamie Fisher, playing his first game of the season, to marshall the tail and put a respectable score on the board. With the outfield slower than normal he decided to take the aerial route, hitting three sixes in scoring 51 from 49 balls. Simon Rider chipped in with 13 and Thatcham were all out for 228 in the 50th over, probably 15 runs short of what they hoped for. Came was the most successful bowler with 3-35.

Odiham started cautiously against the old ball with Perry Moore (1-43) and Simon Rider keeping things tight. A wicket apiece in their fourth overs left Odiham in trouble at 11-2. John Williams replaced Rider and struck in his second over and when Rowe was well caught by Robb Fraser at extra cover the visitors were 58-4 off 24 overs.

Bawa (31) then helped Came add 80 in 14 overs for the fifth wicket as Thatcham’s bowlers dropped short too often but two wickets to Liam Redmond swung the game back in Thatcham’s favour. However, Came continued to punish some loose bowling as he went to a century and he got good support from McGauhrin (24 not out).

With four overs left 28 were needed and when 14 came from the 47th over Odiham were in the box seat. Fisher brought Thatcham back into the game though when he had Came very well taken behind by Stephen Bird for 110 and Rider then conceded only three from the 49th over and took the eighth wicket to leave nine required from the last over, to be bowled by Fisher. Three singles came from the first three balls then Fisher bowled Stevens for 1. A near run out followed but a single left Odiham needing a six from the last ball but McGauhrin could only get the ball away for two and an honourable draw. Fisher completed a fine all round performance with 2-21 with Rider, Redmond and Williams also picking up two wickets each.
