Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v TEDDINGTON TOWN on Sat 23 Jun 2007 at 1.30pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 70 runs
Match report
Thatcham played host to Teddington Town 1st XI at Brownsfield on Saturday. Teddington won the toss and with the likelihood of rain inserted Thatcham. Gavin McDonald started fluently while Ivan Cottingham (7) found the going tough. Stuart Newman (23) joined McDonald with the score on 52-1 and progressed Thatcham to 98 before being caught. Rakesh Patel (34) kept the momentum going despite a break for rain. All the while McDonald was fast approaching his first ton of the year only to be thwarted by May (66-4) when he was on 97. Great knock. Stephen Bird (35 no) and Simian Rider (4 no) guided Thatcham to 198 – 6, 2 runs short of maximum batting points.
Teddington’s reply, against old ball pairing Perry Moore (24-1) and Simon Rider (31-1), started slowly. After Simmons needlessly ran himself out and Jenkins caught dangerman Watchhorn Teddington seemed content to play out for a draw. The introduction of Thatcham’s premier left arm spinner, John Williams (47-6), simply ripped out Teddington’s middle order. A late wicket for Patel left the visitors struggling on 127-9. With 3 overs remaining Rider was brought back into the attack and quickly snaffled the final wicket, Moxon caught Patel in the slips, to help Thatcham to 25 points. All good.
