Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v ROYAL ASCOT on Sat 07 Jul 2007 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
Ascot asked Thatcham to bat first at Brownsfield on Saturday after winning the toss. Unperturbed, openers Ivan Cottingham (46) and Gavin McDonald (56) set about Ascot’s medium paced attack. After 21 overs, and with Cottingham moving into double figures, the visitors brought on spinners Romer (5-60) and Khartade. After McDonald was adjudged LBW and Chris Wright (18) missed a straight break Stuart Newman (0) looked to take the attack to the slow bowlers. Once Newman, Cottingham and a painfully slow Stephen Bird (9) departed it was left to Paul Jenkins (15), John Williams (14) and a resurgent Jamie Fisher (7) to help post a competitive 188 – 9 from 52 overs.
In reply Ascot had little answer to Thatcham’s slow bowling pairing John Williams (3-48) and Perry Moore (2-20). Jenkins (1-29) had Ascot’s professional Khartade magnificently caught by premier slip fielder Jamie Fisher and when Tim Mahoney (2-17) uprooted Ascot’s skippers leg stump another 25 point haul for Thatcham looked likely. However Harding and May, on captain’s orders, shut up shop with 18 overs remaining and played out for a rather dull draw.
