Match report TTCC opened up with Iris Cottingham (8) and Gavin McDonald (12) after losing yet another toss, this time at Odiham & Greywell. After Cottingham played on and McDonald was adjudged leg before Rakesh Patel was bowled for a duck leaving Stuart Newman (9) and Paul Jenkins (10) to rebuild TTCC’s innings after a shaky start. Stephen Bartholomew (9) and Peter Edgcombe (18) consolidated for a while before Brendan Trump (50 no) joined fellow swinger Drew McKenzie (113 no) with Thatcham in trouble at 109 for 7. While the tall elegant McKenzie stroked the ball handsomely to all parts the diminutive Trump pierced the in field with unerring accuracy thereby exciting the visiting fan. The two, clearly having played with each other before, put on 147 for the 8th wicket and put Thatcham in a commanding position at tea, and what a fine tea it was too. Not quite as good as Thatcham’s but a very close second.

Odiham’s reply stuttered when Leziac played on a wide one from Tim Mahoney (2-40) and Edgcombe (2-49) had Oates leg before. Harrington followed Turner to the pavilion, bowled by pacey Paul Jenkins (2-27), before cunning Cottingham threw down the stumps to run out Rowe. Voisey and Came put on a respectable 43 before the introduction of leg spinner McKenzie (2-40) when the latter failed to spot his wrong one and duly edged to McDonald. Voisey followed suit and when Green and Bawa failed it was left to Steven and Thomas to frustrate Thatcham despite best efforts from Edgcombe and Jenkins.

15 points from the game keeps TTCC in the promotion race and with McKenzie and Trump in great form this week’s date shouldn’t be missed.
