Match report Thatcham Town 4th XI’s unbeaten run came to an abrupt end on Saturday as they went down by 6 wickets to a strong Maidenhead & Bray 4th XI.

With 5 of last week’s top 6 batsmen either playing for the 3’s or unavailable this was always going to be a tough game. So it proved, as Thatcham had no answer for the prolific wicket taker V Valambhia who took 8 for 42 to take his tally to 37 wickets from his 6 games this season.

Only Kieran Lynch with 13, Nathan Redmond with 24 and Dave Wells with 16 reached double figures and it was only a 25 run 7th wicket partnership between Wells and youngster Louis Appella that secured the meagre batting points of the afternoon.

The other bowlers hardly got a look in as Valambhia bowled unchanged at one end for 18 overs on his way to his 8 wickets haul, although S Khan supported well for his 1 for 28.

In reply Maidenhead openers T Brooks and Desouza looked to take the attack to the bowlers but two wickets in two balls from Tony Wimbush with the total only on 16 did briefly put Thatcham back in the game. They were unable to push home the advantage however as Kumar and later J Brookes saw Maidenhead home in the 24th over.

Tony Wimbush with 2 for 30 and Nathan Redmond who was unlucky only to finish with one wicket, were the pick of the bowlers.

The difference in standard among the teams in the 17 strong Division 7A is unusually pronounced but given good availabilities for the remaining games Thatcham will not be out of place in the leading group.
