Match report Thatcham Town 4th XI hopes of honours this year came seriously unstuck on Saturday with a crushing 150 run defeat at the hands of a very strong Kew 4th XI.

Electing to bowl first and contain Kew to perhaps sneak a 20 point win Thatcham plans came to grief at the first hurdle as debutant Kohli smashed his way to a fine hundred. Supported by opening partner Ashton (58) and Buxton (65 no) these three took the total to 269 for 1 and the declaration after 45 overs.

Although the Thatcham cause was not helped by a number of dropped chances the bowlers were unlucky early on with numerous miss-hits falling tantalisingly out of reach. Ben Cruise was the pick of the bowlers with, in the circumstances, a miserly spell of 0 for 48 from 13 overs.

In reply Thatcham did not have the answer to the Kew attack and lost early wickets. Neil Stevenson (14) Ben Cruise (27) and Andy Stephenson (26) showed some brief resistance and a quick fire 15 from youngster David Yates at least saw Thatcham past the 100 mark before the last wicket fell with the score on 117. A tough introduction to senior cricket for yet three more colts making their senior debut as the numbers of players to appear for the 4th XI this year approaches 40.
