Match report Thatcham Town U17’s got back into winning ways with an excellent 7 wicket victory against a strong Sulhamstead side on Thursday evening.

In each innings Sulhamstead looked very dangerous early on – in particular when batting first on a damp track openers Benham and Burrows punished anything short of a length as they raced to 31 from the first 5 overs. However Thatcham made the breakthrough with the early introduction of spin when Tom Donnelly clean bowled Benham for a fine 18. Donnelly and Rob Clare, backed up by some superb fielding then applied the brakes as Sulhamstead only managed 14 from the next 6 overs loosing 3 wickets in the process, with Burrows finally dismissed for 21.

The only other batsman to reach double figures was Burton who finished unbeaten on 24. Superb fielding, including smart catches by Nathan Kingston and Rob Clare, and an amazing sequence of 4 run outs saw Sulhamstead dismissed for 85 in the 20th over.

Once again Tom Donnelly was the pick of the Thatcham bowlers finishing with 2 for 8 from his 4 overs, but all the bowlers returned fine figures with Adrian Bromhead 2 for 9 and William Foskett 1 for 14 the other wicket takers.

Again at the start of the Thatcham innings Sulhamstead showed how strong their bowling attack was by reducing Thatcham to 21 for 3 after 7 overs. However Kieran Lynch with a superb 37 not out and Fossie, with 17 not out saw Thatcham home with 6 balls remaining.

For Sulhamstead Palmer was particularly unlucky but still finished with 2 for 7 from his 4 overs, Benham with I for 9 from 4 was the other wicket taker.

Not a high scoring match a great game of cricket none the less.
