Andover v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1st X1 - Sunday on Sun 03 Jun 2007 at 1pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
Thatcham Town’s ECB National Knockout challenge ended on Sunday as they lost to Andover by 6 wickets.
Batting first on a sporting Andover wicket runs were hard to come by. Barnes 17 and Denness 11 ground out 28 for the first wicket but things soon fell apart as wickets tumbled. Johnson 33 and Keep 17 batted well to take the total to 105 for 7. Rider 26 not out looked in good form but ran out of partners as Thatcham closed on 133 with 2 and a half overs remaining. Flipper Williams with his own brand of half trackers and grenade slower balls picked up 5 for 36 for the home side.
Despite the low total Thatcham worked really well in the field and the quartet of Rider, Bishop, Bird and Johnson bowled with great discipline.
At the half way point an unlikely Thatcham victory looked a possibility but Hadfield 25 and Clarke 22 not out chanced their arm and with only part time bowling options left open to Thatcham, Andover limped home in the 41st over.
Thatcham put in an excellent fielding display lead by Carl Self and The Keep Dog with full commitment to the cause until the final run was scored.
Danny Williams 37 was the backbone of the home sides innings, however with better availability this should have been a Thatcham victory.
