Thatcham 2nd XI continued their good form as they claimed a second consecutive 25 points, this time away against British Airways 2nd XI.

Thatcham won the toss and as last week decided to bat first and make the most of the hot conditions, and things seem to have paid off nicely as openers Rochfort and Howell combined to create a great start, putting on 38 runs before Rochfort fell for 21.

Thatcham then struggled against the accurate bowling of Nasrullah and Zeeshan and were soon reduced to 78 for 5 with only Howell (31) adding any significant runs, before Skipper Bird joined Hobbs at the crease to produce a partnership that placed Thatcham into the driving seat. Hobbs and Bird took the score past the 100 mark and continued to take control as they added 85 runs in 17 overs before Hobbs (43) skied one and was caught with the score on 163.

Skipper Bird and the finally 4 batsmen had their sights set on 200 and when Mahoney was finally dismissed Thatcham had managed to reach 211 with Bird finishing 71 not out. Zeeshan (4-40) and Kulli (3-54) were the pick of the bowlers for the home side but they were to rue the number of chances that were missed.

Thatcham then set about dismantling the Home sides batting line up with the opening partnership of Bishop and Moore as the two experienced spinners reduced British Airways to 58 for 5 within the first 17 overs. A change in bowling did nothing to reduce the home side’s misery as George Armstrong produced his best bowling performance of the year with an impressive 2 for 11 from 6 overs.

It was now only a matter of time before Thatcham collect their 25 points and the reintroduction of Bishop (2-37) and Moore completed the victory as Moore added 3 more wickets to his tally to finish with figures of 6 for 28 as they home side finished on 105.
