Match report Thatcham made the short trip to Malverley's to face East Woodhay in their second pre-season fixture but persistent rain put paid to what could of been a really good game of cricket.
Thatcham batted first and an excellent opening partnership of 91 was posted by Josh O'Flynn (31) and Simon Lewis (76). Both played well against the new ball attack of Adam Kite and Cameron Flack with both bowlers extracting seam movement from a juicy April wicket. It was the introduction of Alan Williams that broke the partnership as O'Flynn edged a climbing delivery through to Darren Booth behind the stumps. The off spin of Joe Lawrance then claimed the next three wickets to fall, Chris Wright was superbly caught by Nick Bird for 5, Lewis then fell for a fine 76 and Steve Bartholomew was bowled for 4. The Young brothers Jack and Jamie then added 40 together before Jack was caught for 15 off the bowling of Williams and it was left to skipper Duncan Johnson to add a quick 30* from 22 balls at the end together with Jamie Young who made 31*. Thatcham had posted a useful total of 212-5 from their 40 overs. Joe Lawrance 3-43 from 8 overs and Alan Williams 2-22 from 8 were the Woodhay wicket takers.

With the weather forecast being bang on for a change, Thatcham took the field in spits and spots and it wasn't long before the rain was becoming an issue, Woodhay openers Will Flack and Joe Lawrance batted well against Callum Johnson and Scott Gibson although Johnson got his just reward from a tidy spell with the solitary wicket to fall, that of Lawrance, caught and bowled for 10. Under increasing darkening skies, Thatcham managed to bowl just the 12 overs before the umpire decided that enough was enough and took the players from the field. Will Flack had just reached an unbeaten half century hitting ten 4's in a fluent innings. Callum Johnson was the pick of the Thatcham attack, returning figures of 6 overs, 3 maidens, 1-15.

Thatcham entertain neighbours Falkland in the last pre-season fixture at Brownsfield next weekend.
