Match report A magnificent century from talented all-rounder Josh Winfield nearly fired his side to an unlikely victory over local rivals Falkland at Brownsfield on Saturday but the visitors emerged successful with a 14 run victory at stumps.

Falkland batted first and Scott Gibson removed both Will Langmead (23) and Bruce Martin (2) quickly. Dave Bloor (4) soon followed to Josh O'Flynn but Falkland rebuilt with an excellent partnership between James Bloodworth (55) and Ben Piper (78). With skipper Craig Williams adding a quick 17* and Jack Chapman (16), Falkland posted 207-7 from their 45 overs. Scott Gibson 3-32 and Josh O'Flynn 2-33 were the pick of the Thatcham attack.

Thatcham's top order was then ripped apart by Jason Williams who bowled with pace and aggression to dismiss John Willams (0), Simon Rider (2) and Josh O'Flynn (4) and when Bruce Martin snapped up Jamie Young lbw without scoring, Thatcham were 18-4 through 9 overs. Steve Bartholomew and Josh Winfield stopped the rot, adding 40 together before Bartholomew fell to Kolugala for 19. Winfield and Chris Rochfort (16) added a further 60 and by this time Winfield was taking centre stage. The Falkland attack didn't know where to bowl to him as he cleared the ropes in spectacular fashion and started to tip the game back into Thatcham's favour. He needed support though and neither Duncan Johnson (6) or Callum Johnson (0) could offer that. Scott Gibson cut a determined figure though and he ably stuck with Winfield as the powerful all-rounder threatened to win the game against the odds. It was the return of Kolugala that turned the game back Falkland's way though, as he bowled Winfield for 123, an innings that included ten 6's and ten 4's and as confident a display of power hitting as you are likely to witness. Last man Chris Bird joined Gibson and Thatcham had plenty of time to get the 26 runs needed for victory. The pair got their side to within 14 runs until Bruce Martin returned to bowl the 41st over and he nailed Gibson, caught behind for 6 to end the home sides effort, 193 all out.
Jason Williams 4-32, Bruce Martin 3-19 and Daminda Kolugala 2-25 were the pick of the Falkland attack.

Thatcham start their Thames Valley League campaign on Saturday with a trip to Cove to play their 2nd XI.

The Thatcham side will be selected from Duncan Johnson, Chris Bird, Felix Hartley Russell, Josh O'Flynn, Simon Rider, Simon Lewis, Tom Mahoney, Jamie Young, Steve Bartholomew, Callum Johnson, Des Hartley Russell, John Williams and Scott Gibson.

Josh Winfield serves his 3rd in a 4 match ban whilst Jack Young, Chris Wright, Peter Spriggs, Andy Harland, Chris Rochfort and Matthew Denness are all unavailable.
