Match report Thatcham enjoyed a winning start to their Sunday fixtures with a superb all round display to beat Donnington by 113 runs at Brownsfield.

Batting first, Thatcham posted a useful 169-7 from their 40 overs. Skipper Duncan Johnson 54 and a superb half century from young Rhys Williams were the standout contributions. Stuart Gregory (16), Ben Copeman (14) and Chris Rochfort (12) also got into double figures.

Gent bowled well for the visitors, returning 1-25 from his 8 overs and he was well supported by Symmonds 1-18, Luke Howe 1-30, Clarke 3-13 and Uphill 1-13.

Left arm quick Steve Bartholomew took centre stage with the ball for the home side as he ripped out the Donnington top order with a superb display of swing bowling. He clean bowled Oliver, Barton, the dangerous Ryan Shepherd and Luke Howe in a devastating 8 overs in which he returned 4-10. With the spin of Tommy Mather working in tandem also taking wickets, the Donnington reply never got started. Mather took 2-29 from his 8 overs and it was left to John Pocock 2-9 from 4 overs and Michael Sopp 2-6 from 3.1 overs to dismiss the Dons for just 56 inside 24 overs. Only Saddington emerged from the batting with any credit making a fine 24 in amongst the carnage going on around him.

All in all, an excellent all round performance.
