Match report An entertaining Pro45 game of cricket at Brownsfield on Sunday saw visitors Swindon come out on top by 28 runs as both teams racked up over 200 runs on an excellent deck.

Swindon batted first and were thankful for their middle order as the top four failed to make any inroads against some tight Thatcham bowling from Scott Gibson (1-39)and Chris Bird (4-27). Young off spinner Michael Sopp (3-47) bowled really well in the middle overs and he was well supported by debutant Abhijit Saha (0-44), both bowling their full 9 over spells straight through. Club Chairman Dominic Melville (1-37) picked up the important wicket of Baden (62) with Daginton (48) supporting well throughout the visitors innings. Swindon were dismissed in the last over for a useful 234.

Scott Gibson (34) and the evergreen Stuart Gregory (40) got the reply off to an excellent start until Swindon introduced the pacy Baartman. He got rid of Gregory and then bowled both John Palmer (0) and Chris Bird (1). Wicketkeeper John Williams joined Gibson and the pair set about the task in hand. Gibson fell for a well crafted 34 and Duncan Johnson (7) and Gary Sopp (15) soon followed. This left Williams with a rather long tail for company and he expertly rotated the strike so that he faced the majority of the deliveries. Fluently driving and cutting and every so often unleashing the power he passed 50 with ease and was looking good to see his side over the line and it was just a case of someone being able to support the burly left hander. Melville (0) was bowled by the pacy Goodwin and then the visitors took the wicket they needed, Williams clothed a suspiciously high full toss and was caught for a brutal 88. Saha (0) was then bowled by Chevis and when Simon Chapple (0) edged Millar's first ball to slip the game was up and Thatcham fell short by 28 runs. Baartman and Baden both picked up 3 wickets apiece for the visitors.
