Result: Thatcham Town 2nd XI 256 all out from 46.5 overs drew with Henley 3rd XI 204 for 8 from 53 overs
Thatcham’s 2nd string missed out on a much needed 25-point haul against lowly Henley 3rd XI when they failed to bowl out their hosts having set them a target of 257 from 53 overs.
Having lost the toss and been inserted on a slow Nettlebed track, Thatcham openers Andy Harland (20) and Stephen Bird (14) set the platform for a run fest with the gauntlet taken up effectively by Steve Bartholomew (56) and Jamie Young.
Young dominated the Thatcham innings, despatching 11 boundaries and 6 sixes in a fine innings of 121, eventually last man out as Thatcham posted 256 in 46.5 overs.
In reply, Henley set off well, openers Gill (35) and Johnson posting a century opening stand before the former perished to Bartholomew. Thatcham rang the bowling changes and Tim Mahoney (3 for 53 from 15) snapped up Johnson for 76 to a sharp take at first slip.
Lubbock (47) looked to continue to chase down the target but when he fell to a Mike Green / Andy Harland run out combination from long off, Henley’s challenge effectively ended and it was more a matter of whether Thatcham could knock over the Henley tail.
George Armstrong returned to the attack to pick up a late wicket but the even track eventually won the day and Henley’s innings closed at 204 for 8, Thatcham netting 14 points to the home sides 10.
