Thatcham’s 2nd XI picked up 25 points with a solid seven wicket victory over their North Maidenhead counterparts at Brownsfield on Saturday. Winning a rare toss, Thatcham inserted their opponents and opening pair Mike Green and George Armstrong (1 for 29 from 10) settled into a good line and length to put the batsmen under pressure.
Change bowlers Jack Andrews (3 for 29 from 10) and Tristan Allen (3 for 20 from 6) surprised the visitors with a good spell of pace and swing bowling and having ripped the middle order out in quick succession, Ben Copeman polished off the tail with 2 for 0 from just four balls, North Maidenhead 105 all out from 32.4 overs.
In reply, Thatcham lost Simon Rider early but Kieran Lynch settled things down with Copeman (10 before falling to Butt for a useful 32 and with Copeman departing soon after, Thatcham were 47 for 3 and in need of a partnership to see them home.
Steve Bartholomew (10 not out) anchored one end, whilst leaving the business end of the innings to Stephen Bird who went on the front foot from the off to smash 46 not out, including six boundaries and one six, to see the home side to victory without further loss in the 25th over.
