Match report For our first outing in the Home Counties League I was really pleased with the performance and disappointed we didn't manage to take the full 25 points.

We lost the toss and were inserted. Gavin MacDonald and Ali Naqvi made a steady start before Naqvi edged behind for 13. The boys worked hard to form partnerships which was very pleasing, Steve Wyatt chipping in with 23, looking very comfortable until he was trapped LBW. Johnson and MacDonald batted solidly through to lunch. MacDonald after batting superbly (and missing lunch!) was trapped first ball after the break for 42.

Johnson fell shortly afterwards for 35, Dan Stone and Martin Keep continued to keep the board ticking but both fell in quick succession for 23 and 11 respectively. Jenkins, Harland, Bishop and Bird failed to reach double figures, but Pete Edgcombe chipped in with a useful 11 not out to see us through 59 of the 60 overs, finishing on a respectable 194.

Thatcham entered the field full of energy with just over an hour before the tea interval were determined to take early wickets and win the session. We certainly did, with Harland and Naqvi picking up where they left off last season, bowling tight and giving little away, both picking up two early wickets reducing Thame to 36-4 at tea. With a minimum of 29 overs to bowl, we went for all out attack, Chris Bird and Duncan Johnson bowled superbly, Bird breaking the deadlock of a now somewhat closed shop from a Thame perspective. Two wickets in two balls again from Bird heightened the pressure on Carr the Thame skipper. It was Nick Bishop who replaced Johnson who produced an inspired five over spell, taking two wickets to leave Thame 9 wickets down! Thatcham just couldn't find a way through the number 11, so had to settle for a very convincing winning draw.

Really pleased with the energy and determination in the field, the batting needs a little bit of work, to get used to the new league batting in different sessions and slightly more patiently. Given a couple of weeks I think we will easily adjust to this.
