Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday v Farnham Royal on Sat 02 Aug 2008 at 11.30am
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
It was a disappointing day for Thatcham slumping to a third successive defeat at the hands of Farnham Royal.
The day looked like being a wash out, but after lunch brightened up to allow a delayed start and a reduced overs game. Thatcham lost the toss and it was no surprise to see Farnham Royal elect to field. They couldn't have started better, Santokie taking 2 wickets in the first over, both Simon Rider and Matthew Denness removed for nought. James Ettridge and Ali Naqvi batted superbly to rebuild the innings, both coming close to half centuries. James Ettridge was first to go with the score on 77-3. Steve Wyatt joined Naqvi to continue where James left off, batting without too many risks they worked hard to keep the scroeboard ticking. Naqvi fell at a crucial time as Thatcham looked to be taking the upper hand. Duncan Johnson fell quickly for nought to a sharp catch from Santokie. Dan Stone made a good start but was soon to follow LBW to Santokie for 12. Thatcham were in some trouble at 151-6.
Andy Harland supported Wyatt before he was dismissed to a good catch at Square leg for 43 (182-7). Wickets fell quickly with Jason Williams and Chris Bird both failing to trouble the scorers. Harland failed to bat out the overs with Nick Bishop chancing a stroll down the pitch once to often and being stumped for 21. Thatcham finished a disappointed 195 all out.
Thatcham replied with a steady start, Harland and Naqvi bowling tighly to well set fields. However it was vital to take wickets to upset Farnham's progress. Simpson was superbly tied down but Milller rode his luck and picked up occasional boundaries. The Farnham camp started to get restless and Miller took this on board taking further risks. Without a wicket Thatcham made
a double bowling change, introducing Williams and Johnson. Miller passed 50 but it wasn't long before Johnson removed Simpson leaving Farnham 90-1.
The games was evenly poised, but the Santokie show continued, having already taken six wickets he didn't hold back with the bat. Smashing Thatcham to all parts of the ground and surrounding neighbourhood.
Thatcham had little answer as Santokie hit 73 from 36 balls, taking 28 from one over. Santokie and Miller fell in quick succession to the returning Harland and Naqvi, but it was all too late with wickets and overs in hand, Farnham Royal reached 196-3 from 36.2 overs.
It was a frustrating day for us, only picking up 5 points puts us in one of the three relegation spots. We go away to Kidlington in a must win game for us. The division is wide open with a number of sides in the relegation mix. I am confident we can reproduce the kind of form that has seen us beat some of the top sides in the league.
