Match report Thatcham II got their first win of the season thanks to a much improved effort in the field and a fine century from Matthew Denness.

Stoke Green opted to bat first and were immediately put under pressure by the family partnership of the ever youthful Tim Mahoney (1-22) and Gary Waterston (1-28). Each took an early wicket before the home side took control and with twenty overs to go looked set for a large total on 126-2.
However young leg spinner Nic Monger had other ideas and he removed Younis for 42 and with John Williams finding control after a difficult start Thatcham got back into the game. Williams removed Patel, who made a fine 80, with the help of an excellent catch from Stephen Bird.
Monger's variations proved too much for all of Stoke Green's batsman and he finished with superb figures of 5-36 from 9 overs and with Williams taking 2-64 from 17 the pair meant Thatcham would only have 188 to chase.

Thatcham's reply again started slowly, losing Iain Cottingham in the third over for nought and with ten overs gone the score was 10-1. However, Matthew Denness started to show glimpses of his best form and with support from Stuart Newman they steadily upped the rate and looked increasingly comfortable. They had put on 79 when a change of ends for Ifras and the taking of the new ball brought the breakthrough as Newman fell LBW for 21.
Fortunately Denness was now in full flow and dealing almost exclusively in boundries. He was joined by Martin Keep who played in his usual positive manner before he edged behind for 19 with 56 still needed from 14 overs.
Stephen Bird kept the strike ticking over as Denness moved inevitably to his hundred and with the game almost won he was finally dismissed for 105 which included 18 fours and 2 sixes. Bird (25 n.o.) ensured there were no further losses as Thatcham got home by six wickets with 20 balls to spare.
