Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 2XI- Saturday v Marlow Park on Sat 28 Jun 2008 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Another poor batting display saw Thatcham II throw away a winning position to hold on for a draw against Marlow Park at Brownsfield on Saturday.

The visitors elected to bat and were put on the back foot by a fine spell from Tim Mahoney, who’d shaken off the effects of an iron man competition last week. He despatched Khan, Howlin and Hanif inside his first eight overs and whilst he didn’t take any more his tight lines and excellent length kept the scoring rate in check.
Potgeiter(56) and Salina (30) took the score over a hundred but with ten overs left they were only on 139 as Mahoney finished his spell at 21-4-49-3.
The last ten saw 84 runs as with wickets in hand Munsha and Riaz had full license to play their shots and they took advantage of a short boundary on one side. Munsha eventually fell for 59 and Riaz 29 as they took the score up to 222-8 in their 52 overs. Gary Waterston (3-53), Simon Rider (1-54) and John Williams (1-53) all supported Mahoney well.

After being well fed Sean Huckins and Rider opened up for Thatcham and set the chase up perfectly. Rider played the supporting role as Huckins rolled back the years with some classic straight driving and flicks through the on side. Fifty was passed in the fourteenth over and the century stand reached in only eight more as Huckins celebrated reaching his own half century with a reverse sweep for four.
As is so often the case the drinks break brought a breakthrough as Huckins picked out mid wicket and was on his way for a fine 70. Unfortunately Rider followed two overs later for 36 but with ninety needed from twenty overs the game should have been in the bag, although Chris Wright had left the ground to take his son for hospital after a fall and was unlikely to bat.
Hanif bowled a tight spell and panic seemed to set in as Martin Keep was run out, Stephen Bird and Jamie Young miscued to mid off and mid on and Williams’ slog across the line saw him caught at mid wicket. Now the target was 68 off nine and when Robb Fraser edged to slip any hope of a win was gone.
Nic Monger and Gary Waterston were left with eight overs to bat out and they managed it well despite a few alarms. Monger playing well to finish 25 not out and Waterston 11 as Thatcham finished on 192-7 from 48 overs. Hanif with 2-37 and Salina 4-28 were the pick of Marlow Park’s bowlers.
