Match report Sent in to bat Royal Ascot got over the early loss of English to amass a large total against Thatcham II. Wensley and overseas player Khartade put on 192 before the latter fell for 98. Wensley went on to complete his century before the declaration came at 275-4 in 49 overs.

Thatcham’s reply started steadily before two wickets in an over put them on the back foot. Stand in captain Simon Rider stood firm however and found good support first from Martin Keep (20) then debutant Jim Browning with the same score.
At 97-4 with twenty overs left the home side were confident of victory but Steve Bartholomew with 47 added 78 with Rider and then John Williams (21no) saw them to safety. Rider was on 98 at the start of the final over but managed to get on strike and hit the last two balls of the match to the boundary to complete a well deserved century.
