Match report A weakened Thatcham II were no match for a very strong Henley II at Brownsfield on Saturday. The home side’s only real chance of victory of was to get a score and try to bowl Henley out so Robb Fraser won the toss and batted.

Kieran Lynch and Simon Rider both struggled against Nick Denning and Tim Chamberlain, with the latter removing Lynch for 4. Rider soon followed, bowled by Denning for 6 and Peter Edgcombe went the same way leaving Thatcham 30-3.
Steve Bartholomew and Fraser battled for a few more overs, taking the score past 50 before Bartholomew’s luck ran out, also bowled by Denning for a hard fought 21. Masters came and went quickly and then Andy White took two wickets in an over to leave Thatcham on 62-7. When Fraser went for a gritty 13 to one that spun and bounced sharply from Yandell any hope of a competitive total was gone. Edmund Edge played a couple of nice shots in his 11 but the home side were all out in 28.4 overs for 83.
Denning 4-26, Yandell 3-11, White 2-14 and Chamberlain 1-21 did the damage for a bowling attack that would not look out of place a division or two higher.

Peter Edgcombe did his best to get Thatcham into the game with the ball but was unable to break through as Ellison and Hilditch set about chasing the total. Gary Waterston also bowled well without much luck and it wasn’t until John Williams came on with only 15 needed that a wicket fell as Hilditch (39) chipped on out to short cover to be well taken by Masters.
The end came soon afterwards however as Ellison (40 n.o) and Brock knocked off the runs in 19.1 overs, leaving Thatcham with a battle to avoid relegation in the remaining seven games.
