Match report Thatcham 3RD XI took a pleasant drive to Highmoor on Saturday to play Kidmore End 3rd xi only to find the ground still locked. Once in the ground on inspecting the “wicket” it was plain for all to see that the wicket was completely under prepared and indeed the home side were still cutting the wicket at 12.30.

With the Kidmore skipper declaring he had only eight players Thatcham skipper Malcolm Bloor was desperate to bat first, but sadly called wrong and the home side decided to bat. Although Nick Voller (1-26) and Dan Stephenson (2-27) both picked up an early wicket apiece Thatcham were slightly off the boil until the introduction of Nathan Redmond. It was around this time that the Kidmore skipper informed Thatcham that he had managed to “scramble “ 3 players and it was assumed that he had manage to drag 3 colts out of bed, however this was not to be as 3 players already selected for Kidmore End 2nd Xi turned up to play.

Redmond continued to bowl well and got the most out of the wicket and was well supported by Ed Edge (2-6) and Jack Andrews as Kidmore slumped to 156 all out. Redmond finishing a marathon spell with figures of (4-50) from 19 overs.

In response openers Bob Gadsden (30) and Mike Hobbs (14) got Thatcham off to a brisk start against Kidmore’s spin attack. However a collapse to 78-6 occurred following the taking of the new ball, Nic Monger and Redmond (28) steadied the ship with Monger playing a particularly good anchor role. When he finally succumbed for a patient 20 it was left to youngsters Edge and Stephenson to score the remaining 20 runs required in a nail biting finish and to their credit saw Thatcham home by 2 wickets.
