Match report Thatcham 4th XI continued their winning ways with a hard fought 3 wicket win against Yateley 3rd XI at Camberley on Saturday. Winning the toss and electing to bowl on a well grassed wicket, Thatcham soon made the early breakthrough they were looking for when Will Harwood, in a fine opening spell of 5 overs, 1 for 8. bowled Kayani with the score on 12.

Thatcham had to work hard for the next wicket as the 2nd wicket partnership looked very solid until P Squire was bowled by Ben Cruise, who followed this up with two wickets in his next over to reduce Yateley to 38 for 4. Wickets continued to fall and only Burhantawala with a belligerent 23 showed any real resistance as Yateley were bowled out for 92 in the 37th over.
All the Thatcham bowlers took wickets with youngsters Will Harwood and Greg Cooper particularly impressive with 1 for 8 and 2 for 7 respectively, ably assisting the more experienced pair of Ben Cruise and Gavin Ansell who took 3 wickets apiece.
Any idea that the reply was a mere formality quickly disappeared when Yateley skipper Andy Davies, bowling as quick as anyone the 4’s have faced for several years, removed Paul Sharp with the first ball of the innings. A fast yorker in his next over accounted for Adrian Bromhead as Thatcham were reduced to 4 for 2. Neil Stevenson and Joe Harwood steadied the ship for a while but another wicket from Davies and two from fellow opener Akhtar, saw Thatcham struggling at 33 for 5.
However a defiant 20 from Piers Bragg tipped the balance Thatcham’s way and although 2 further wickets fell an unbeaten 8th wicket partnership of 38 by Ben Cruise and Andy Stephenson, who both finished on 20 not out, saw a relieved Thatcham home by 3 wickets.
