Match report Lack-lustre bowling and a well below par fielding display cost Thatcham dearly as they were soundly beaten by Bagshot 3rd XI at Henwick on Saturday.

Bowling first Thatcham struggled to get into the game as Bagshot benefited from dropped chances and a fair degree of good fortune as they made their way to 263 for 8 from 49.3 overs. J Balcombe (59) and E Rawle (52) were the top scorers but runs were scored feely all down the order. Ben Cruise was again the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 62.

The highlight of Thatcham’s reply was a fine 3rd wicket partnership between Neil Stevenson (48) and youngster Conor Southgate (45) who rescued the innings as they put on 88 for the 3rd wicket. Although the lower order chipped in it was more in hope than expectation and in the end Thatcham fell well short as they were bowled out for 183. The last wicket stand of 18 between Under 15s Peter Donnelly and Tom Owen did cause a few jitters in the Bagshot ranks as the overs slipped by, but in the end they claimed the last wicket with 4 overs remaining.
