Match report Another good win on Saturday for the 4th XI as they overcame struggling Theale and Tilehurst 3rd XI by 67 runs and gained another valuable 25 points.

After being put into bat Thatcham started watchfully but the opening stand of 68 between Neil Stevenson, who again missed out by one run on what would have been a well deserved 50, and Adam Phillips with a well worked 35, provided just the platform required. Although wickets fell, the middle order, marshalled by youngster Tommy Burch, who with a combination of scampered singles and crisp boundaries, ensured that the target of 200 was achieved. Burch too fell on 49, unluckily stumped off the keeper’s pads, as Thatcham were all out for 212 in the 52nd over.

In reply Theale lost two early wickets with Ben Cruise striking with his first ball, and a run out from a superb piece of fielding by Carl Self. Two more wickets from Cruise put Thatcham in control but a hard-hitting 5th wicket partnership between A Why (29) and P Robinson (28) threatened to turn the game in favour of Theale. However when both fell in quick succession to Andy Stephenson, Thatcham were back in control with the imminent threat of rain now the main concern. The Theale tail wagged briefly as they tried to hit themselves out of trouble but with old ball still swinging and Cruise and Stephenson bowling straight and full, they were bowled out for 145 just as the first spots of rain began to fall. Ben Cruise finishing with 3 for 36 from 12 overs and Andy Stephenson 6 for 26 from 8.
