Match report Thatcham 4th XI enjoyed more success on Saturday claiming another 25 point haul in a high quality and exciting game against Wokingham Oaks and Acorns at Henwick.

Electing to bat first Thatcham had to work hard against the accurate Wokingham opening attack as they were reduced to 16 for 2 after 9 overs, the first 6 of which were maidens. However a superb 94 run partnership between youngsters Kieran Lynch and Tom Mahoney but Thatcham back in the driving seat, Mahoney making a gritty 24 and Lynch fine 86. With the bowlers tiring Thatcham were able to press home the advantage and everyone chipped in as Thatcham finished with 256 for 8 after the allotted 52 overs. P Mohammed with 3 for 73 was the main wicket taker for Wokingham.

In reply the Wokingham batsmen attacked from the start, racing to 50, but with ball now swinging Parsons holed out to Bromhead in the covers off the bowling of Ben Cruise. Skipper Herrington continued the attack but three quick wickets, two more to Cruise and one to Ansell saw Wokingham pegged back to 91 for 4. Runham with 29 and Fleming with 36 maintained the run chase but some fine fielding and catching kept Thatcham in the game. Only in the last 10 overs did Thatcham really get on top as Ansell and Wylie wrapped things up – the last 4 wickets falling for 9 runs. Wokingham finishing some 60 runs short on 194.

Top quality swing bowling from Ben Cruise (15 overs, 4 for 47) and Gavin Ansell (14 overs, 4 for 53) proving decisive, in what was a thoroughly enjoyable game.
