Match report Thatcham’s Paul Jenkins compiled a maiden century as the Brownsfield outfit recorded a comfortable Border League victory at Purley on Sunday.
Jenkins (112 not out) took just 101 balls to reach the landmark three figures with a well crafted display of watchful defence and positive stroke play in an innings that included 17 fours. Ali Naqvi (38) and a rapid 27 not out from John Williams provided the support as Thatcham totalled an impressive 269 for 5 from their 42 overs.

With Naqvi (2-9 from 5) striking in the first over, the Purley response failed to gather any momentum and wickets regularly fell. Dominic Melville (1-17 from 6) bowled with great control to strangle the Purley reply whilst Chris Bird (3-14 from 9) benefited from a favourable surface to find plenty of turn and bounce. Purley continued to battle but never threatened the Thatcham total and closed on 146-8 to hand the visitors a 123 run victory and their second Border League victory of the season.
