Sonning v Thatcham Town Cricket Club Thatcham 1XI- Saturday on Sat 20 May 2017 at 1pm
Thatcham Town Cricket Club Won by 121 runs

Match report A sublime century from skipper Josh O’Flynn helped kickstart Thatcham’s season in a dominant all round display at early-season strugglers Sonning.
With an uncertain weather forecast playing on both captain’s minds, Thatcham were inserted and were soon in trouble with Sonning seamer Adeel Chandry accounting for both Ryan Gilmour and Jamie Young in a testing opening spell.
The home side were understandably buoyant as they sensed an opportunity to record their first win of the season but they failed to capitalise on their early position as O’Flynn and Jack Young began to rebuild. Whilst Young consolidated, O’Flynn moved through the gears, dismissing the Sonning attack as he eased to a chanceless half century. A momentary lapse of concentration followed but O’Flynn survived as an on field collision saw Chandry not only spill a difficult chance, but leave the field with concussion and further add to Sonning’s woes.
It proved to be a costly miss as the pair went on to add 142 for the third wicket, O’Flynn finally falling for an outstanding 104, and with the platform firmly set, Thatcham looked to put the game beyond Sonning’s reach. Young eventually fell for a well constructed 62 and with Tom Mahoney adding a quickfire 37, the innings closed on 269 for 9, leaving Thatcham firmly in control at the half way stage.
Given Sonning’s disappointing start to the season, Thatcham were understandably confident and a couple of early wickets fuelled their optimism. But the experienced Peter Dean and Gary Phillips responded in style, punishing some wayward Thatcham bowling in a battling 83 run partnership. Dean (52) was particularly aggressive, racing to a deserved half century but when he fell to the returning John Williams (4-32), it signalled a rapid collapse. Phillips (40) soon followed as Sonning capitulated, the last 7 wickets falling for just 40 runs.
Jack Andrews (4-33) joined Williams amongst the wickets as Sonning were dismissed for 148, handing Thatcham a morale boosting victory in by far their best performance of the season.
